Choosing the new deck building materials for your project is not quite as simple as wood instead of composite.
If wood is your choice there are several types you can choose from. Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive material option. You will have to get used to the green tint until it fades and can be painted or stained the desired colour. You can also select the conventional look of cedar. as a great outdoor material. It will cost you considerably more money up front and on routine maintenance specifically refinishing. Other deck building material alternatives are much less used and include woods such as cypress and redwood.
Composite materials have improved considerably over the years, but, upon close inspection, some deck builders and homeowners are unhappy with the way these products look compared to real wood. If low maintenance is factor in your new deck and a quick power wash every spring is all you want to do then composite may be the way to go. While composites can be used for the decking and rails, you will still need solid wood for the entire support structure.
